As a fully qualified and experienced teacher, I have a passion to ensure that every child's individual learning needs are met to ensure that they are able to have the best opportunity to be successful in all areas of learning. I am confident in teaching primary aged children in all subjects, particularly: phonics, reading, writing, maths, grammar, as well as all foundation subjects. In addition, I am an English graduate and love to help children appreciate the skills of analysis of literature and applying this in their interpretation of other authors and becoming authors in their own right; I can teach children relevant and appropriate skills for their own creative and purposeful writing, ensuring they use appropriate tools and tones

Maths Tutoring

Primary Maths Tutoring: Boost maths skills with interactive lessons and practising of core skills, building upon those already secured. Deepen your understanding by securing reasoning and problem-solving skills.

 

English Tutoring

English Tutoring: Enhance reading, writing, and communication skills. As an English graduate, I can support from Early Years to KS4, supporting early reading to develop strong comprehension skills, eventually refining this to language analysis. I also have strong knowledge of spellling, punctuation and grammar and can ensure this is applied, along with literary tools within creative or informative writing.

 

Phonics

I understand that the heart of all learning is the ability to read and write, which starts with strong phonics skills. I can help children to learn how to decode words, blend and read, as well as to build a word to write, applying the known spelling rules.

 

Frequently Asked Questions

What subjects do you offer tutoring in?

As a specialist primary educator, I offer tutoring in all primary subjects but most of my tutoring is in primary maths and English (phonics, reading, writing and grammar). I can also develop their scientific knowledge and skills and teach history, geography, RE, music and PSHE.

I also offer tutoring in KS3 GCSE English as an English graduate.

 

How do you personalise tutoring sessions?

I seek to get to know each student and will personalise each tutoring session based on each student's learning style and needs. I also keep open conversations between parents/ carers and support each student in their current learning, focusing on what parents/ carers require but also where I recognise a need, I will share it with parents/ carers.

What are your qualifications and experience?

I have a PGCE in Primary Education, giving me qualified teacher status. I have experience as a classroom teacher in both large and small primary schools within the local area and have also tutored children who are currently being educated in alternative provisions.

How do the sessions run?

Each session is different based on the needs of each child and how they prefer to learn. I spend time during the first session getting to know my students but this will evolve as I get to know them better. 

I try to make each session engaging and fun but also ensuring that there is purpose in all that we do.

Individual sessions are different to group sessions where we can learn from each other as well as what I have to offer.

Is tutoring just for those who are finding work hard?

Tutoring allows a child to learn at a pace that suits them and not to be rushed on until their understanding is secure. For some, practical learning helps and we can apply the learning in many different ways until we find the right approach or strategy for your child.

For some, a classroom can make a child feel stressed or anxious and learning in a home or a quiet space at school can make it more accessible for them. Maybe they find they can learn in small chunks and we can break up the learning for them or give regular breaks.

I have been able to strengthen the basic skills that children need to  be at age-related standards but for some, they need stretching and I can help to deepen their understanding beyond the expected level for their age.
