Here's a little about me.
I am a qualified and experienced primary school teacher who has grown up in, and lives in, Crowthorne, Berkshire. After leaving the classroom to allow a greater balance between teaching and family life, I now tutor full-time.
I have experience teaching in KS1 and KS2, including preparing children to achieve their best in end of KS2 assessments with strong results in both expected level and greater depth.
I am an English graduate who longs to share a love of reading and an ability to understand texts, convey interpretations and to write creatively, purposefully and accurately.
Although I enjoy learning of an academic nature, I understand that this is not for everyone and seek to ensure that children find confidence in what they can do and work with them to give them strategies to practise so that they are not limited in areas where their confidence is weaker. I also believe that Functional Skills qualifications are ideal for older teens or adults who do not find skills-based study easy and could access the life-skills based qualifications to improve their opportunities for further education and employment.
I have experience in supporting children with special educational needs, anxiety, trauma and neuro-divergence and always seek to nurture, reassure and build trust before we can start on any academic focus. I have made adaptations and taught children in the classroom to allow ALL children to access learning and to ensure they feel safe and calm. I also now work with children who feel unable to access formal education; I have worked with children with learning disabilities genetic health conditions, autism, verbal mutism and ADHD. In all of these scenarios, it is essential that I understand each child's individual struggles, their needs and work with their own interests to allow them to be able to learn.
I have a current enhanced DBS, appropriate insurances and am registered with the ICO (Information Commissioner's Office) for safe maintenance of personal information.
I am a proud mum of three (plus my beagle). I am passionate about children wanting to achieve their best but most of all believing in themselves. Breaking through the barrier of self-belief, despite challenges and difficulties is the greatest key to success and will help children to want to find the best way to help themselves to learn.
